Photo Contest Winner

We're a winner! The Audubon Center at the Francis Beidler Forest won the Trail Management category of the National Recreation Trails photography contest! The image shows the recently-built observation tower at Goodson Lake. The tower will offer elevated views of the lake and its residents, including alligators, many turtles, and fish (previously difficult to view due to the highly reflective water). Additionally, birds that prefer to remain high in the tree canopy will be easier to view from the elevated platform.

There are photo opportunities any time of the year at the Francis Beidler Forest, but the prime season is rapidly approaching! As the days get longer, the urge to fly north to the breeding grounds becomes irresistible. By mid-March, songbirds will return to the swamp and announcing their presence with colorful plummage and melodious songs. Reptiles will emerge from their winter shelters and flowers of every shape and color will open in search of pollinators.

Mark your calendars and pay us a visit!
